SantoSports Players Championship Coverage
By Peter Santo
This week the PGA Tour is in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. for the Players Championship, the so called fifth major.
While a recent Golf Digest article suggests it might not be the players’ favorite event, there is no question it is an important event on the PGA Tour schedule.
Defending champion Rickie Fowler came out in sweet shoes yesterday but is struggling and currently sits at +1, Jordan Spieth shot even par 72 yesterday in his first round since his Masters collapse. Rory Mcilroy debuted new golf shoes, took a page out of Fowler’s book by wearing high tops and joggers, and is on 59 watch on Friday.
World number one Jason Day shot a course record 63 yesterday and is tied for the lead. Meanwhile, Colt Knost has come out of nowhere and is 9 under on his second round.
With so many storylines in play this week, it should be a fun filled weekend in Jacksonville. Check back here for Players Championship updates throughout the weekend.
