Jack and Barbara Nicklaus invite Possible Ryder Cuppers for Dinner
By Peter Santo
The Honda Classic is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour schedule, but this week has added importance for the potential members of the 2016 US Ryder Cup team.
Jack and Barbara Nicklaus invited the top 40 members on the US points list to dinner at their house along with captain Davis Love III. The goal of the dinner was likely to foster team commraderie that the US will need to defeat Europe at Hazeltine this fall.
The complete list of players who attended the event, with their position in the points standings in parentheses: Zac Blair (35), Keegan Bradley (42), Jason Dufner (12), Tony Finau (29), Rickie Fowler (6), Brian Harman (37), Russell Henley (27), Billy Horschel (24), John Huh (34), Dustin Johnson (2), Chris Kirk (39), Kevin Kisner (11), Brooks Koepka (9), Jason Kokrak (23), Jamie Lovemark (30), Andrew Loupe (40), Ben Martin (31), Phil Mickelson (7), Brendan Steele (41), Robert Streb (20), Jimmy Walker (18) and Gary Woodland (19).
Also in attendance were vice captains Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, and Tom Lehman as well as Ryder Cup committee member Pete Bevacqua.
This is a great start in building team chemistry, but one thing’s for sure, the Ryder Cup will not be won at the dinner table.
