What Needs To Be Done V2
By Mitch Canzano
Another year of inconsistency seems to be looming for the Bruins. A lack of discipline and full 60 minute efforts have cost the team quite a few points thus far. This season is really the first taste of extended mediocrity for most Bruins veterans.
In 2 of their last 5 games, the Bruins have gotten a lead in the first 2 minutes of the game, and then have gone on to lose. It goes without saying, but that’s not good. That’s 4 points, down the drain. Though losing a lead is not the hardest thing to do in hockey, it seems to be a recurring nightmare for the Claude Julien’s Bruins.
Winger Brad Marchand said that not everybody is on board with the whole “full effort” idea and that there are far too many “passengers” on the team. A strong message from a leader of this team that change is needed.
Tuukka Rask is currently 5-7-1 with a 3.18 GAA and a very subpar .890 SV% while backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson is currently 3-1-0 with a 2.25 GAA and a 9.12 SV%
Yes, Rask is still an elite goaltender, however Claude Julien should confidently roll out Guatavsson a bit more often because as his stats show, he’s playing better. Perhaps a little goalie competition will help Rask play a bit better in the crease. However, there should be no controversy as Rask is still a top 10 goaltender in the league despite what his stats may say.
The Bruins currently sport a horrific 2-7-1 home record this year. Teams are rolling into TD Garden with bundles of confidence because of how bad the Bruins have been defending home ice this season.
If anything needs to change, it’s the Bruins home record, because they have 41 games at home. At this rate, they’re going to end up at 8-29-4 at home. Let’s hope that that doesn’t happen.
Generally, I think the veterans in the clubhouse need to have a bigger voice. As the saying goes “win as a team, lose as a team” but maybe it’s time for a few players to get called out and step up their game. After all, the Bruins need a kick of energy to get through 60 minutes,.
Oh, and please, for the love of God, get rid of Kevan Miller. I can’t stand this dude. I don’t care how we get rid of him, but he needs to go. He’s horrid.
