Nadal Falls in Second Round at WImbledon
By Peter Santo
No excuses this time Rafa. There was nothing wrong with your knees, you just lost. Dustin Brown treed out of his mind, Nadal failed to show up in another early round match at Wimbledon, and was upset yet again.
The journeyman with sweet dreadlocks from Jamaica came to play on Thursday. He quickly took the first set, and while he expectedly lost the second set quickly, he came back with a vengeance. Winning the third and fourth to upset Nadal.
This was Nadal’s first loss to a qualifier at a grand slam in 21 career matches. Nadal claims he was healthy, but after the way he got blown out at Roland Garros and the way he played Thursday, there has to be something wrong right?
The man who was once thought as the man who would challenge Federer’s all time grand slam record, and eventually become the best player in history, looks like a shadow of himself out there.
And with nothing but the hard court season left to play, there is no reason for Nadal to turn it around anytime soon. The long awaited matchup between Federer and Nadal at the US Open would be part of the undercard for a night session in New York.
Well, Federer’s draw has opened up a little bit, but it will still be a tough road if he wants to make a return trip to the final.
